Subject: Reflection on the meeting with the consultants
After the active
discussion with the consultants about the possible alternatives to improve our
current operating system, I can simply say that I am impressed. Their table of
content was a nice introduction of the presentation and definitely set up a good
tone. Even though, I had a feeling that the consultants were focusing and
describing too much of our current processes, which we are aware of, they did a
very good job explaining the potential options and infrastructure of the new
systems. They elaborated on the pros and cons of each of the alternatives what
made it easier to see the possible outcomes. The outlined facts associated with
keeping our legacy IT system were really meaningful and clear. As we are facing
the risk of using the operating system that is no longer supported, we are all
aware of the necessity of updating it. In order for us to be able to keep up
with our growing operations it has to be done in near future.
According to the
consultants’ expertise, we should enhance the new IT infrastructure. I believe
this would be a big step to a better future, as
we already have the competitive advantage to rapidly move new product from the production
line to the store shelves in less than three weeks, what most of our
competitors simply can’t. It is critical to keep up this efficient value chain
with modern operating software and not to fall behind, considering the fact
that our peers are improving their operations as well. Having the access to
customers’ data and ratings would help us get a better understanding of their
needs and latest trends. That would be another sector that in a long run would
bring significant sales, as having loyal/satisfied customers is really
important. Even though the new infrastructure is a long process that requires
lots of resources, planning and eventually training all employees it will
benefit our company in a long run. Converting current manual processes to less
time consuming ones will also free up lots of employees that could be relocated
to our newly opened stores instead of hiring new staff.
You might wonder why this
implementation is as important to me especially as you know I’m the last one
that is considering any changes and such a pricy upgrades. The reason is really simple: I just realized
how tremendously fast the technology is advancing and whatever worked decades
ago will not in the near future. In order for Zara to continue its successful operations
the rapid response to customers’ needs is the key.
Thank you for taking your time on this important subject and
considering my feedback.
Best Regards,
Anna Szperlak
